Singular
A surface that didn’t exist before you asked for it. Bring the idea — the studio sculpts the form by hand and casts it as a wall, a band, or a panel.
Made once
Singular is the studio’s surface work made as a single form rather than a repeated module. You come with an idea — a creature, a structure, a rhythm, a memory of a coast — and we give it a body in clay, then cast it in GFRC or ceramic and finish it by hand. Where the repeated hexagon module · Series 01 lays a continuous field, Singular is a form that does not yet exist.
“Not a numbered edition. Not a run. A form that didn’t exist before you asked for it.”
The collaboration
It begins with a conversation, not a brief. We sketch the form together, after which the clay can take shape — the commission is the conversation as much as the object. The original is sculpted by hand; at a large scale the basic blank may first be cut true by machine, purely so the starting geometry is exact where the hand cannot block out a meter of material — but every surface, edge and shadow that follows is the artist’s hand. The machine gives the true blank; the hand gives the work. From the original we take a mould, cast the tile, and finish it by hand.
“It never starts as a brief. It starts as a conversation — and somewhere in it, the shape shows up before either of us says so.”
— Ché Hough
What you receive
You receive the cast piece — sculpted to your idea, finished by hand, and certified with a signed record of its maker, its material, and its date. A development fee covers the sculpting of the clay original, the mould, and the material sampling; it is credited against the final piece on confirmation. You commission a work; the studio makes it for you.
The form
Cast in GFRC where the tile must face the weather and climb a wall, or in ceramic where the work lives inside and close to the hand. A Singular commission can be a single tile, a band, or a field laid to a module we design so the form tiles cleanly — with the same fixing logic as the Series 01 hexagon: tile adhesive as standard, or a clip into a fixing point cast in the back plus adhesive where the wall is public or legislated for a mechanical fix.
A note on the brief · Singular is made as form, by hand — not as the reproduction of an existing logo, crest or drawing · bring the creature, the structure, the feeling; the studio translates it into a relief that could only have been sculpted
A bespoke sculptural surface. The form is sculpted to your brief, cast in GFRC or ceramic, and finished by hand.
An original form, sculpted — a creature, a structure, a rhythm, a memory. The studio makes form by hand; it does not reproduce an existing logo, crest or drawing. If you arrive with a mark, we find the form inside it together.
Lightweight GFRC for the wall that faces the weather, or ceramic for the work that lives inside — resolved to the commission.
A single tile, a band, or a field. For a field we design a module so the form tiles cleanly; dimensions confirmed at the concept stage.
Tile adhesive as standard. Where the wall is public or legislated for a mechanical fix, a separate clip is anchored into the substrate and hooks into a fixing point cast in the back of the tile, bedded in adhesive — the mechanical line redundant, not relied upon. Confirmed per site.
Covers the sculpting of the clay original, the mould, and material sampling. Credited against the final piece on confirmation — paid in full only by those who proceed.
The mould remains the property of the studio, archived after casting to support future repairs, replacements, or extensions to this specific commission — it is never cast for any other client’s work. Guaranteed destruction of the mould after casting is available as a separate option, for those who require absolute, irreversible exclusivity; ask at the concept stage.
Longer than a module commission — the form is sculpted before it is cast. A timeline is confirmed at the concept stage, once the original is agreed.

Studio & Commission Process
Ché Hough lives and works in Pearly Beach at the southern tip of Africa. Twenty five years at sea inform a practice that reads the ocean as a navigational topology. Singular extends that inquiry to the scale of the architectural wall as a bespoke sculptural commission.
